A man who was riding his ride into a pool was shot Thursday in the head by a shooter who took aim at a mini-bus heading for surfers, authorities said.

The collision occurred at 16000 block of North Washington Boulevard at 9:30 a.m., and authorities said the victim's body was found inside the vehicle shortly after noon.

The victim, who is in his 30s, suffered nonlife threatening injuries and was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, Capt. Chris Conley said.

The mini-bus was involved in the crash.

A police source said a gun was found on the scene, and the investigation is on-going.

Conley said the mini-bus was at the surf spot from the previous day.

Last rings premiere in doubt as season five gets started

I know it's an argument against the show but the season five premiere is an argument against the show. The premise could have been done better. We had no idea the way it was going to end.

When the show went into production the idea to make a family show was already on paper so they knew what to expect when they rolled out the set of the second season. There were so many new twists to take place and what felt like a straight forward season five was soon revealed as a bunch of surprises.

This could have been a fantastic show, like the first one, it was a series about a family of two kids getting swept out of their home by a storm and on their journey, and I'm sure if there was a show like that, people would be talking about season four.

"I'm the first person to ever read this," I hear you saying.

If I was to make it to one or more of the other shows on the schedule I'd probably say the first season wasn't what they had in mind when they made the switch. I mean they changed their season one format, I don't think they wanted to keep the same cast all season and the second season was only eight episodes so I don't think it was really an ideal format for a series that had just come out.

How much of your job is on keeping the audience informed about what is going on?

I take a lot of information and try to make sure that the show is as entertaining as it can be, when something goes wrong, I don't have to worry as much about that, the people that watch the show always get what's going on so that's very important for me.

"The show that has fans that are going to keep listening is the show that will bring us to a new season one season"

One of the things I'm very proud of is the way the show has been received, so many people have enjoyed it and I know there's a lot of fans out there who haven't but I do know when the season five episode airs people will be really excited because it seems like a show that fans want to know more about.

How would you describe season five to your family?

For the first eight episodes that everyone's in their own little world that's been kind of boring. And then what happens in season five, well, what happens in a series of things, not everyone is going to live a perfect life, so as a result everyone is going to get separated from each other and that's kind of something that the series is trying to address and bring that back into it.

"The second season isn't about families, we'll jus

Man charged with bashing bondi bus driver with rifle during attack Read more

It is unclear if the attack was politically motivated or how high up the organisation's hierarchy the assault took place.

Sarwar, who was working as a driver on the bus at the time, was also one of several workers killed this month when a group of Islamic extremists drove a bomb-laden bus into a crowded cafe in Nairobi, Kenya, killing 67 people.

The two attackers in the latest attack – which were killed – were found in a nearby compound, according to one police spokesman, Shimon Sofu. The second attacker was shot dead, the spokesperson added.

Another police spokesman said a fourth man, identified as a father of two children, was also injured in the attack. He was being treated for bullet wounds in Mombasa hospital, the spokesman said.

Police fired shots at the car as it approached the road in front of Sarwar's workplace. A man in a blue jumper and a white coat emerged from the car in front of the police vehicle and fired six to seven shots from their weapons, wounding Sarwar in the back. Police fired additional bullets, killing him in the car, and fled towards an apartment.

"It is clear there was a lot of blood that can be seen inside the vehicle," said a Mombasa police spokesman, Mombasa police spokesman, Hengie Keno, told the Associated Press. "The bullet that hit him is still in his body.

"There is another person inside the vehicle," he said.

At least four other people, including a policeman, have reportedly been injured in separate incidents in the past two days, according to local media and security officials.

Witnesses said the police vehicles involved were being used to target suspected criminal gangs, who were also involved in the attack, which could have been planned by suspected militants linked to al-Shabaab.

The suspect in the attack on Sarwar was also among five men who died when a black SUV mounted a pavement and collided with a car on Idube Street in a busy residential area of Mombasa. Witnesses said the three people inside were killed in the crash, which witnesses said was likely carried out by armed people.

Kenya's prime minister, Uhuru Kenyatta, praised the police response to the security operation, as he urged citizens to be vigilant and to not allow themselves to be the victim of "false alarms" in the country.

Driving penalties double for long weekend

"It's not only about the police, it's about the driver as well. The longer you're driving, the more chance you have of not getting charged. Even if you drive slowly you have a chance of being fined, but what is so surprising is how important it is that the driver sees what the road is like."

Claims of american bias ahead of nobel announcement of Obama, by Sam Woolley, Wall Street Journal, 11/25/13

"The Obama administration had to work with Congress to secure the Nobel prize, and not just by handing it to Martin Luther King Jr.," by Andrew Rosenthal, NYT, 11/25/13

"What the Nobel Laureates do, if anything, is highlight their accomplishments. By standing up for democracy and free speech in the face of the most virulent of criticism, some say, they are elevating their personal lives and the public discourse to a new level."

"On Thursday night, as Martin Luther King Jr. stood on the balcony of the memorial to the civil rights icon to receive the coveted Nobel Peace Prize, activists from around the world celebrated a major milestone, applauding what they see as America's move from a country of few exceptions to one where all individuals of color and other groups are included in the democratic process, no matter their country of origin."

"The Nobel committee's announcement was greeted with a wave of congratulatory clapping from the audience. But the event's biggest victory still lies outside of Washington: As a result, even though only one African-American won the Peace Prize, the honor of having been recognized by one of the world's greatest minds still lies with the entire generation of African-Americans that produced him, Dr. King," the NYT reported, citing a source.

"The Nobel Peace Prize was not awarded for King's legacy, but because of his non-violent approach to ending apartheid in South Africa. While King's actions alone are a remarkable step forward in promoting a just and peaceful, independent Africa, it is also a tribute to one of the world's great thinkers, whose life's work has been to advance the human rights of black people and to elevate civil liberty in the face of tyranny," Nobel committee president John Hannah wrote at the time of the award's announcement in Oslo on June 23.

For a moment, a little bit of humor in this piece: The Nobel committee announced the prize for peace, peace and human rights today, 11/25, according to NPR, and the winner will be announced tomorrow morning.

Malaysia launches attack to end sabah stand off that killed four

(Updated) Malaysia's military says it has been hit by a series of attacks by Islamic State militants in its east on the eastern coast, while a US official says the threat has risen in recent days to a level that could lead to a military response.

The attacks came as a series of raids by Malaysia's armed forces on IS positions in the eastern parts of the peninsula have begun, officials said.

IS-linked sources reported having killed four local residents.

"They were attacked with rockets. This is the first time they were ambushed, but it appears that the victims were armed because we were able to find weapons," said one commander.

He said three IS militants had been killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday night.

A spokesman for the anti-Isis fighting group Sdn Bhd on Thursday said the fighting in the Kalimantan islands was being led by "Islamic State militants".

The clashes started in the early hours of Thursday and continued overnight, he said. "This is an intensified fighting. We have to stop them from being able to get into the interior as it is so dangerous and there are too many security systems."

Military sources told AFP that the main targets had been IS positions at Sabah, Sarawak and Kota Bharu and the nearby Malacca Strait. The US official said Sdn Bhd had seen no sign of IS fighters having returned to Syria, despite attacks by Russian forces in Syria's Latakia province.

Malaysia, which has been battling a powerful insurgency by rebels for three years, is one of America's key allies in the region.

US officials and politicians have been shocked by what they have described as the Islamic State's "horrific" offensive in the east, which has so far claimed more than 40 lives.

In addition to the Kalimantan islands, the US says several other targets have fallen to IS militants. The militants were able to infiltrate into the neighbouring Chinese city of Luoyang after they seized weapons in southern Thailand.

In the south, they took control of the border town of Pahang, as well as several police posts along the border with the Vietnamese province of Vietnam, the military said, citing intelligence sources.

Malaysia's navy and air force had also struck IS facilities around Sarawak in early Thursday morning, a military spokesman said.

He said the operation in Kota Bharu, some 12km west of Sarawak, was continuing and that the military was investigating links to Malaysia.

Security in a region of some five million people has been tightened by the country's anti-terror measures, which the Malaysian government says targets "foreign radical
